Each local commercial radio station in the UK has requirements in respect of its music and local content, such as news, speech levels etc. These requirements are set out in the station "Format", a document issued by Ofcom, the UK’s radio regulator.

This Public File contains details of the elements that Ofcom regulate, such as music tracks, local news etc. It is intended to give you a better understanding of our output and what we are doing for our local community.

 

News Bulletin Schedule including which bulletins provide local news and which provide only UK-wide bulletins. 
 
Leicester Sound broadcasts news bulletins on the half-hour between 0600 and 0900 and hourly from 0900 and 1900 on weekdays. Breakfast and drive time bulletins contain a  full mix of local, national and world stories, along with appropriate weather, sport and entertainment stories. At the weekend, news bulletins containing local, national and world news are broadcast on Leicester Sound between 0800 and 1100 with extra national and world news bulletins at 0600, 0700, 1200 and 1300.

The Programme Schedule
Details of Leicester Sound's programmes can be found on the schedule section of the web site. This includes details of all the shows for the coming week as well as quick links to all the DJ pages.

 

The average number of hours of automated programming within weekday daytimes and within daytimes on Saturdays and Sundays
Only the 1pm hour is automated Monday to Friday.


The amount of local programming per day produced by the station
Leicester Sound broadcasts live every day from Leicester 6am to 10am and 1pm to 7pm Monday to Friday. On weekends, the station is live from Leicester between 8am and 12 noon.

Ofcom, the government regulator with responsibility for local radio, has produced localness guidelines that this station adheres to. These guidelines can be read here.

Events/ Charities Support or Coverage
Leicester Sound supports a number of charity events throughout the year. Most notably, Leicester Sound hosts the annual Cancer Research UK ‘Race for Life’ event.  For more about this years event, click www.leicestersound.co.uk/sectional.asp?id=36099

 

In addition, the station also supported the Special Olympics Leicester 2009. The station is proud that Leicester is the only city to have hosted the event twice.  Recently, Naomi Kent, from Damien & Naomi At Breakfast, hosted the countdown launch in Leicester City centre. There will be further activities throughout the year.
